Egypt team manager Ibrahim Hassan has insisted that only the national team staff will determine the fate of the injured players after calling-up Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Egypt will take part in the Winsunited Cup during the March break in the UAE alongside Tunisia, Croatia, and New Zealand.
The Pharaohs will face New Zealand in the semi-finals on March 22 in what will be Hossam Hassan’s first game in charge of the Pharaohs.
Hassan called up seven foreign-based players for the camp, led by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who has been struggling with injuries since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah has played just twice for the Reds since the start of the year and Liverpool have tried to convince the Egyptian FA to exclude their star man from the March international break.
However, Ibrahim Hassan insisted that only the national team coaching staff has a say in who plays and who doesn’t while stating they will ensure every player’s safety.
Ibrahim Hassan stated: “The national team coaching staff wishes success to all foreign-based players who have been selected to join the March camp, and we are keen to ensure their safety.
“In case of any player getting injured, the coaching and medical staff will decide on their status after their presence in the camp, and after we will coordinate with their club.
“I have been in contact with all the foreign-based players in the national team list in the past few hours to check on them and arrange with them regarding their joining dates for the camp.
“I am pleased with the high spirits I found during my communication with the players and their confirmation of their utmost efforts to raise Egypt’s name high and fulfill the hopes of the Egyptian fans.”
