Egypt international Mohamed Elneny has announced his departure from Arsenal at the end of the season after eight seasons at the club.
The 31-year-old joined the London giants in January of 2016 from FC Basel for a fee of €12.50m when Arsene Wenger was still in charge of the club.
This makes Elneny the longest current serving player at Arsenal, having made 161 appearances for the Gunners in which he scored six goals and provided ten assists.
However, as his contract runs out by the end of the current season, Elneny has confirmed that his time in London has came to an end in a video posted on his social media.
“Gooners, I’m here today to send you a message, to say goodbye and thank you for everything you’ve done for me,” Elneny said in a heartfelt video addressed to Arsenal fans.
“The love, the support, and the kindness. I’m really going to miss you so much and you’ll be in my heart forever.
“I wanted to say how much I love you and how much you mean to me. I will never forget the way you supported me.
“I’m going to see you on Sunday at the Emirates to say goodbye face to face, see you then.”
Despite featuring rarely under Mikel Arteta, Elneny has become a prevalent member of the squad and was seen coaching the club’s youth sides in the aim of gaining UEFA coaching licenses.
Elneny featured just six times for Arsenal this season, including twice in the Champions League, and will hope to end his adventure with the Gunners with a Premier League title on Sunday.
