Al Ahly star Hussein El-Shahat has been sentenced to one year in prison with a suspended sentence and a fine of 100,000 Egyptian pounds.
On Thursday, the Nasr City Misdemeanor Court sentenced Al Ahly player Hussein El-Shahat to one year in prison with a suspended sentence for assaulting Pyramids’ Mohamed Chibi last summer.
This ruling follows the complaint filed by Chibi regarding the final matchday of the previous season, in which Pyramids FC beat Al Ahly 3-0 in a dead rubber as the Reds had already clinched the Egyptian Premier League title.
However, tensions still arose during the game between players and coaching staff, with Mohamed Chibi being the center of attention after entering more than one altercation with Al Ahly players.
Following the end of the game, Hussein El-Shahat was seen slapping Chibi as the Al Ahly player claimed that the Moroccan insulted him and his family.
As a result, Al Ahly released an official statement announcing that El-Shahat has been fined 500,000 EGP, considering the player’s acknowledgment of the mistake and his apology for what happened.
Moreover, El-Shahat was also fined 220,000 EGP by the EFA as well as getting suspended for two games.
Chibi still was keen on filing a complaint against the player in court, which ruled against El-Shahat who was accused by the Moroccan player of bullying, assault, insult, defamation, intimidation, and threats of physical harm, which resulted in psychological and physical harm, especially after videos of the slapping incident were circulated on various social media platforms.
The court’s ruling was as follows: “The Nasr City Misdemeanor Court sentenced Hussein El-Shahat to one year in prison with a suspended sentence, a fine of EGP 100,000, and a five-year ban from membership in any club.”
