Achraf Bencharki nearing Zamalek return

Zamalek are on the verge of finalising a deal to bring Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki back to Cairo on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old is currently a free agent after his deal with Qatari side Al-Rayyan came to an end after just one season with the club.

After almost two months with a club, Bencharki is thought to now return to Zamalek after both parties managed to reach an agreement, except for just bonuses and the signing fee.

It’s understood that Bencharki demands to receive a hefty part of his salary as a signing fee, something the club can’t afford right now and prefers to pay in installments.

Bencharki represented Zamalek between 2019 to 2022, making 109 appearances for the Whites, scoring 41 goals and assisting 29 while winning six trophies with the club.

During his time in Cairo, he lifted two league titles, two Egypt Cups, one Egypt Super Cup, and one CAF Super Cup, while also leading them to the 2020 CAF Champions League final.

The Morrocan then left to join Emirati side Al-Hazira on a free transfer after his deal expired, spending one year in the UAE, before joining Al-Rayyan, where he also played for just one season.

After a disastrous campaign where Zamalek lost all domestic trophies and finished 29 points behind their arch-rivals Al Ahly, the Cairo giants will be looking to rebuild their squad.

With the exception of triggering the buyout clause in Mohamed Shehata’s loan spell, Zamalek are yet to make a summer signing and will hope for Bencharki to be the first.
