The Matrouh Criminal Court issued a one-year suspended prison sentence against Zamalek player Ahmed Fetouh on Saturday evening.
Ahmed Fetouh was previously absent from Zamalek for an extended period following a tragic accident on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, in which he struck a police officer with his car, resulting in the officer’s death.
He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs. In addition to the suspended sentence, the court fined the player 20,000 Egyptian pounds and revoked his driver’s license.
The suspended sentence means that Ahmed Fetouh will still be under probation for the duration of three years, which means that if the Zamalek defender commits any crime during that time period the original one-year prison sentence will be enforced.
The victim’s family reached a settlement agreement with Fetouh and his lawyer during a previous court session.
He has since returned to action for Zamalek, appearing in the team’s first two matches of the Egyptian Premier League this season. The player will be allowed to travel abroad with the team for upcoming matches.
