African champions Al Ahly are reportedly in talks to bring Ahmed Hegazi back to Cairo after his time in Saudi Arabia came to an end.

Having joined Ittihad Jeddah in October 2020 from West Brom, it has been revealed that the Tigers are keen on offloading Hegazi this summer after struggling with injuries last season.

Hegazi missed the first half of the season due to an ACL injury, before returning in December to make 21 appearances in which he scored twice as Ittihad failed to defend their league title and finished fifth.

Despite Al Ahly already securing Zineddine¬†Belaid’s services, it seems like they are also eyeing Ahmed Hegazi, who represented the club for two seasons between 2015 to 2017, before moving in a ‚ā¨5m deal to West Brom.

According to the Saudi publication Alyaum, the negotiations between Al Ahly and Ittihad are heading in a positive direction with a return to Cairo seems now closer than ever.

During his first stint with Al Ahly, Hegazi made 56 appearances for the Reds in which he scored twice and helped the club win four trophies, including two league titles.

The 33-year-old had joined Al Ahly from Fiorentina while also having spells with Italian side Perugia and Ismaily, starting his career with the latter back in 2009.

Meanwhile, during his time with Ittihad Jeddah, Hegazi made over 100 appearances for the club, securing them a historic league title in 2023 and the Saudi Super Cup in the same year.
