Al Ahly admits Zamalek strength ahead of 'one-off' CAF Super Cup

Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller and goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy spoke about the upcoming CAF Super Cup clash against Zamalek during their press conference.

Al Ahly will face Zamalek at Kingdom Arena on 27 September 2024 at 8 PM CET, with the CAF Super Cup title on the line.

Swiss coach Koller refused to reveal his starting lineup, emphasizing that it would be a surprise: “The CAF Super Cup will be a tough game.

“We’ve prepared the players thoroughly and hope to have the support of our fans.

“It’s a one-off match, and we’ll do everything we can to win. We’re highly motivated to secure the trophy and start the season strong. I’ll finalize the lineup after the last training session.”

Regarding Abdelmoneim’s departure, Koller stated, “He’s no longer an Al Ahly player. Our focus is on the players we have, and I wish him the best. Whether we face Zamalek in Africa or domestically, they’re always a tough opponent.”

On the other hand, team captain Mohamed El-Shennawy commented: “This isn’t our first time playing in Saudi Arabia, and we’re always treated well here. We’re ready for the match, and I constantly remind the team to respect every opponent.

“We always respect our opponents, and with Zamalek, it’s no different. Our focus is at its peak, and we’re determined to win.”

Additionally, right-back Mohamed Hany shared his thoughts with Al Ahly’s official website, saying: “Our only goal is to win, regardless of who plays. The team that makes fewer mistakes and stays more focused will come out on top.”

“Games against Zamalek are always different, and past results don’t matter. We’ve learned from last season, and everyone is fully focused on bringing home the trophy.”
