Al Ahly president congratulates Pitso Mosimane for honorary doctorate

African champions Al Ahly have made sure to congratulate former head coach Pitso Mosimane for claiming the honorary doctorate of Philosophy.

The South African coach will be conferred with an honorary degree by the University of Johannesburg this week on Thursday, 25th of July.

Pitso Mosimane invited Al Ahly president El-Khatib to the event, and despite the latter not being able to attend due to medical reasons, he still sent his congratulations to the three-time African champion.

The statement posted by Al Ahly read that Mosiamene mentioned in his invitation the fantastic relationship he has with El-Khatib, who labelled the South African as ‘one of the most distinctive coaches in Africa’.

Mosimane joined Al Ahly from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020 and went on to win two CAF Champions League trophies, the Egyptian Premier League title, the Egyptian Cup, and two CAF Super Cups.

The club also claimed two Club World Cup bronze medals with Pitso Mosimane, earning historic victories over the likes of Copa Libertadores champions Palmeiras, Mexican club Monterrey, and Saudi giants Al-Hilal.

Before his time in Cairo, Mosimane also won the 2016 CAF Champions League over Zamalek and several trophies including five PSL titles with Sundowns.

After leaving the African Club of the Century, Mosimane went on to help Ahli Jeddah gain promotion to the Saudi Pro League in the Middle East, before having a brief stint with Abha FC.
