Al Ahly suffered a 28-24 defeat against SC Magdeburg of Germany in the semifinals of the 2024 IHF Men’s Super Globe.
Despite a strong first half where Al Ahly led 15-12, they were unable to maintain their advantage in the second half, eventually succumbing to Magdeburg by a four-goal margin.
In the second half, Magdeburg started to show their experience and slowly started reducing the Egyptian club lead and only took the lead of the game in the 51st minute. The Egyptian champions tried to mount a comeback but couldn’t and the game ended with a 28-24 Magdeburg win.
That was an impressive performance against the defending Champions Magdeburg. The German club are the champions of the past three versions and are going for their fourth consecutive title.
The Egyptian team advanced to the semifinals despite losing 31-23 to Barcelona in their second group-stage match last Sunday, securing their place in the knockout rounds on goal difference.
The tournament, which is being hosted in the New Administrative Capital, began last Friday and will run until October 3, featuring Zamalek as the other Egyptian club in the tournament.
Following this defeat, Al Ahly will face Barcelona once again, this time in the third-place playoff match, competing for the bronze medal.
