Al Ahly open investigation into Kendouci statements

Al Ahly has launched an investigation into recent statements made by Ahmed Kendouci concerning Zineddine Belaïd’s transfer.

Algerian defender Zineddine Belaïd was on the verge of joining Al Ahly this summer, but the deal fell through despite the player agreeing on personal terms with the Reds.

It was Belgian club Sint-Truiden who sealed Belaïd’s signing for lower wages than he would have earned had he signed for the African champions.

Compatriot and Al Ahly’s loanee at Ceramica Cleopatra FC Ahmed Kendouci has revealed that the reason the deal fell through was that someone from the Reds’ board urged him not to change his agent.

Speaking to OnTime Sports, Kendouci said: “Whatever has been said regarding Belaïd transfer is not true.

“Petkovic – Algeria team manager – did not tell him not to go to Al Ahly. Sometimes they say Kendouci is the reason. All of that is not true.

“Zineddine Belaïd was too close to joining Al Ahly but with his agent. Someone in Al Ahly asked him to change his agent and he refused. For us Algerians, the agent is a friend, we don’t change agents.

“Al Ahly negotiations with Belaïd were 70% done but it stopped due to the agent issue. A lot of people advised him to play for Al Ahly and he was excited.”

Following these statements, Al Ahly have decided to open an investigation into the matter. The club has formally requested Ceramica Cleopatra to arrange for the player to meet with Al Ahly’s legal department to discuss the issue.
