Al Ahly stars Emam Ashour and Mohamed El-Shenawy have resolved their disagreement during training ahead of their upcoming match against Orlando Pirates.
The issue arose after Ashour expressed frustration at being left on the bench during Al Ahly’s match against Stade d’Abidjan.
Before training, El Shenawy approached Ashour, encouraging him to calm down and not let his emotions get the better of him. However, Ashour took offense to this and a confrontation ensued between the two players.
As a result, Ashour was suspended from team training and fined 1 million EGP. Later, Emam issued an apology to the club and his teammates via his Instagram account.
According to Al Ahly TV, the two players have since patched things up. A video shared by the club showed Ashour and El Shenawy talking and hugging, signaling the resolution of their differences.
Ashour’s return to full training is a welcome boost for Al Ahly, who have won just one of their last three matches. The team secured two draws—against Al Ittihad and El Bank El Ahly in the Egyptian League—while defeating Stade d’Abidjan 4-2 in the CAF Champions League.
Al Ahly will next face Orlando Pirates in Johannesburg on 7 December 2024 at 3:00 PM CET.
