Al Ahly

Al Ahly have tapped former Egypt international Emad El-Nahhas as interim head coach following the dismissal of Spanish manager Jose Riveiro.

In an official statement, the Cairo giants confirmed that Emad El-Nahhas will lead the first team.

Al Ahly also announced the appointment of Walid Salah El-Din as the club’s new football director. The 53-year-old, a former Ahly and Egypt star, has held similar roles at Ittihad of Alexandria, FC Masr, and most recently ZED FC.

The club also announced the structure of El-Nahhas’s temporary backroom staff. Adel Mostafa will serve as assistant manager, Mohamed Naguib as assistant coach, and Amir Abdelhamid as goalkeeping coach.

However, the existing medical and administrative staff remain unchanged, while negotiations are ongoing to add a fitness coach.

The decision comes after the club’s recent league defeat to African champions Pyramids FC, which sealed Riveiro’s fate. The spaniard had departed South Africa’s Orlando Pirates, favoring a move Cairo, only to have his stint with Al Ahly cut short, lasting only three months with the club.

The Red Devils return to Egyptian Premier League action on 14 September against ENPPI, as they seek stability after a turbulent start to the season.

The new setup will oversee training starting Thursday, 4th of September, as Al Ahly prepare for the next stage of their domestic campaign.
