Al Ahly have rejected a proposed release clause in Mostafa Shobeir’s new contract, despite progress over his salary and commercial benefits.
Sources close to the player have said that the goalkeeper’s agent, Chris Emile, requested the clause. The proposed term would allow Mostafa Shobeir to leave whenever he receives a suitable European offer.
However, Al Ahly rejected both the amount and the principle behind the request. The source said the club “does not want release clauses to become a precedent.”
Officials believe accepting the condition could encourage other players to demand similar terms. Those clauses could then give players greater leverage in future negotiations.
Recent offers help explain Al Ahly’s position. The club reportedly rejected a proposal worth about $2 million from Italian side Como this month.
Shobeir’s father, Ahmed Shobeir, confirmed that offer during an OnSport FM interview. He said Al Ahly rejected it immediately and insisted the goalkeeper was not for sale.
KingFut also reported earlier in the transfer window that Nordsjælland ended their pursuit after Al Ahly rejected their proposed financial package.
A $3 million clause would therefore cap Al Ahly’s return only slightly above offers the club has already refused. It would also prevent officials from benefiting if Shobeir’s value rises further.
The Red Devils also took the same approach with Emam Ashour and Marwan Attia.
However, both sides have made progress on the other contractual terms. Shobeir would receive an annual salary of about EGP35 million. The package also includes additional benefits, alongside EGP10 million in bonuses and a commercial contract.
If the two sides fail to reach an agreement, Mostafa Shobeir could begin negotiating with foreign clubs in January.
The goalkeeper’s value rose after his performances at the 2026 World Cup. He helped Egypt reach the last 16 and saved penalties from Mehdi Taremi and Lionel Messi.
Shobeir has made 70 appearances for Al Ahly, recording 38 clean sheets.
