Al Ahly have officially shut the door on any potential transfer for striker Wessam Abou Ali in the summer transfer window.
In an official statement, the Cairo giants revealed that they had reviewed two formal offers for the Palestinian forward, one from UAE Pro League side Al Wasl and another from MLS club Columbus Crew. As clarified in their statement, Al Ahly have ultimately decided to keep the player, who is under contract until 2029.
The statement detailed the progression of Al Wasl’s bid, which began at $2.5 million and eventually increased to $6 million plus 20% of any future sale. However, Al Ahly considered the valuation below expectations and received no further contact after communicating their position to the Emirati club.
Meanwhile, Columbus Crew tabled an offer starting at $4 million, later raising it to $5.25 million with an additional $750,000 in performance-related add-ons and 10% of any future resale. Al Ahly responded with a counter-valuation, stating that Wessam Abou Ali’s price should not be less than $9.5 million, plus $2.5 million in bonuses.
With negotiations stalling, Al Ahly issued a deadline to the American side, requesting a final response by July 10. After the date passed without reply, the club formally closed the file on Abou Ali’s sale.
The club emphasized that the player was kept informed of all negotiations and correspondence and is now fully focused on preparations for the upcoming season.
The Palestinian forward enjoyed an impressive season, scoring a total of 17 goals and assisting 4, including a hat-trick against Porto in the FIFA Club World Cup.
