Al Ahly are in talks to appoint Spanish manager Garcia Pimienta as their next head coach following Marcel Koller’s dismissal two weeks ago.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Garcia Pimienta, who recently parted ways with Sevilla, has reportedly received a strong offer from Al Ahly. The club recently parted ways with Swiss manager Marcel Koller after a run of disappointing results, including their elimination from the CAF Champions League.
Since Koller’s departure, former Al Ahly defender Emad El-Nahhas has been serving as caretaker manager while the club works to secure a permanent appointment in time for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States this summer.
For Garcia Pimienta, the opportunity to be in charge of Al Ahly in the Club World Cup could be tempting. The manager would also give the Cairo giants a boost, given his experience at Barcelona’s La Masia academy, and familiarity coaching in one of Europe’s biggest stages, La Liga.
However, sources close to the coach say he has other priorities at the moment and is still weighing his options. Following his Sevilla departure in April, Garcia Pimienta has been heavily linked with a move to Watford FC.
In the meantime, Al Ahly remain in contention for the domestic league title, while also preparing for the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup, which begins on 15 June against Messi’s Inter Miami.
