Al Khaleej manager Georgios Donis has confirmed that Egyptian striker Mohamed Sherif is nearing a return to full fitness and could rejoin the squad within 10 days.
Speaking to the media, Donis said, “I do not like to speak about individuals, but Sherif was unlucky due to injury. I trust him, and it is important that he plays after the international break.”
The Greek coach added, “He is returning to full fitness. Sherif has been undergoing training, and I expect him to be fully ready to play in 10 days.
“Regarding the rumors that Sherif may leave in January, I do not pay attention to them. These rumors target the fans. Sherif is focused on the team, and we leave the offers to the board in case any arrive.”
With his contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign, Sherif’s future remains uncertain.
Reports have linked his former club, Al Ahly, with a potential move to re-sign the player during the January transfer window. The African champions are reportedly monitoring Sherif’s situation closely and could make a move if Al Khaleej is willing to negotiate a reasonable fee or allow him to leave on a free transfer.
Since joining Al Khaleej, Sherif has struggled to replicate his success at Al Ahly. Over 38 games, he has managed just six goals and two assists, with his last goal coming in May 2023 during a 1-1 draw with Ittihad Jeddah.
