Al Masry ended their journey in the CAF Confederation Cup as the Port Said club suffered a 4-1 defeat to Simba in a penalty shootout.
Despite holding a 2-0 advantage from the first leg in Egypt, Masry failed to hold off a determined Simba side who came out swinging on their home ground.
The hosts wasted no time cutting into the deficit. Winger Elie Mpanzu opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, followed by a second from Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala just ten minutes later, wiping out Al Masry’s lead and leveling the tie on aggregate.
With no goals scored in the second half, the match was forced into penalties.
In the shootout, Simba kept their composure. Jean Ahoua, Mukwala, Kibu Denis, and Shomari Kapombe all converted their spot-kicks. Al Masry, on the other hand, failed to deliver under pressure. Mido Gaber and Mahmoud Hamada both missed from the spot, while Fakhreddine Ben Youssef was the only player to score for the Egyptian side.
The result sees Simba advance to the semi-finals, where they will meet Stellenbosch, who knocked out Zamalek earlier in the evening.
Al Masry’s exit marks a disappointing end to a campaign that had shown promise, especially after their strong showing in the first leg.
