Al Masry kicked off their CAF Confederation Cup campaign with a draw away to Al Ittihad in the first leg of the second qualification round.

Playing away from home, Al Masry stood firm at Tripoli International Stadium, with Tunisian head coach Nabil Kouki opting for a cautious approach to secure a result on the road.

Al Ittihad nearly broke the deadlock inside seven minutes through Clement Ikenna, whose strike grazed the outside of the post. The hosts dominated early on, while Al Masry sat deep and absorbed pressure with little attacking effort in the first half.

In the second period, Nabil Kouki turned to his bench, introducing Kingsley Eduwo, Mido Gaber and Bonheur Mugisha to help the frontline, but neither side managed to find a breakthrough.

Al Masry will host the return leg in Egypt on Sunday, 26 October, with a spot in the group stage up for grabs.

The Port Said outfit are making their seventh appearance in the competition and their second in a row, having earned a direct entry into this round based on CAF ranking after finishing fourth in the Egyptian Premier League.

Last season, Al Masry reached the quarter-finals before exiting on penalties to Tanzania’s Simba SC.

Al Ittihad, featuring for a 12th time in the Confederation Cup, reached this stage after a 3–1 aggregate win over Ethiopia’s Wolaita Dicha in the previous round.
