Liverpool manager Arne Slot has backed Mohamed Salah to regain his scoring touch in the Premier League and break his longest goalless run since joining the club.

Salah has gone nine top-flight matches without a goal. He last scored in Liverpool’s 2–0 win over Aston Villa in November.

Speaking to the press, Slot argued that the bar Salah has set for himself explains the noise around his form. “He set his own standards, and those are so, so, so high,” the Dutchman said, adding that surprise is “the biggest compliment he can get” when he doesn’t score for a few games.

Slot also pushed back against selective framing. He pointed to the forward’s recent output in the FA Cup win over Brighton, where he delivered a goal and an assist. “That is the reality,” Slot said, before noting that people can still choose to highlight the nine-game league run.

Slot said Liverpool’s dip in goals has not hit Salah alone. He also mentioned Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo as attackers who have not scored as often in recent matches.

The manager said it was a collective problem Liverpool must solve. Slot added that clean sheets have eased pressure on the front line. He pointed to higher-scoring performances in recent games as proof that the team can produce regardless of individual statistics.

Liverpool are set to host West Ham next in the league, and Arne Slot expects Salah to respond as he usually does. “I know in the end he always starts scoring again,” he said.
