BASKETBALL: Brooklyn Nets sign Egypt's Patrick Gardner

The Brooklyn Nets have added Egyptian basketball player Patrick Gardner to their roster ahead of the 2024 NBA training camp.

Patrick Gardner, originally from Merrick, Long Island, signed an Exhibit 10 contract, which gives developing players a chance to secure a spot on the main roster or move to the G-League with the potential for a two-way deal.

Gardner, who stands at 6-foot-11, has gained experience playing both in the G-League for the Long Island Nets and internationally.

Last season, he averaged 8.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks per game while shooting an impressive 44.8% from three-point range. His former general manager, J.R. Holden, praised Gardner’s versatility, noting his ability to both shoot and handle the ball.

Patrick Grardner is a member of the Egyptian National Team and has represented the country in important competitions like the 2023 FIBA World Cup and the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Gardner’s path to the NBA started at Nassau Community College and moved through various levels of college basketball, including Marist College, where he had a standout senior season averaging 19.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

He also played for the Miami Heat in the 2023 NBA Summer League before returning to the Long Island Nets.

This signing offers Gardner a chance to continue his development with a possibility of breaking into the NBA full-time, while also keeping him connected to the Egyptian basketball scene. If he does not make the Nets’ main roster, he is expected to play for the Long Island Nets again, a team he is quite familiar with.

Egyptian basketball fans will undoubtedly be keeping an eye on Gardner’s journey, as he represents both his local community and his heritage on a global stage.
