Defending CAF Confederation Cup champions Zamalek have been drawn in the same group as fellow Egyptian club Al Masry for the upcoming tournament.
The draw places the two Egyptian sides in Group D, alongside Nigerian giants and two-time African champions Enyimba and Mozambique’s Black Bulls Maputo.
This will mark the first time ever both teams face each other in a continental competition, having only played before in the Egyptian Premier League and the Egypt Cup.
Elsewhere, Group A features Tanzanian club Simba SC, Tunisian side CS Sfaxien, Algeria’s CS Constantine, and Angola’s Bravos do Maquis.
In Group B, Moroccan club RSB Berkane is set to face Malian side Stade Malien Bamako, South African club Stellenbosch, and Angola’s Desportivo Lundas Sul.
The 2023 CAF Confederation Cup winners, USMA Alger of Algeria, have been drawn in Group C alongside ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal’s Jaraaf, and Orapa United of Botswana.
Zamalek secured their place in the group stage after defeating Kenya’s Police FC 3-1 on aggregate in the second preliminary round in September and will be looking to earn their third CAF Confederation Cup title.
Meanwhile, Al Masry earned their spot by overcoming Libya’s Al-Hilal in a dramatic 5-3 penalty shootout, following a 5-5 aggregate draw in the second preliminary round, with their best record in the competition coming when they reached the semi-finals of the 2018 edition.
