CAF officially ordered a replay of the 2025 AFCON qualifier between Cameroon and Kenya, following allegations of match-fixing.

The original fixture, held on October 16, 2024, in Yaoundé, has come under scrutiny after FIFA’s Integrity and Compliance Unit, in coordination with the Confederation of African Football and international sports monitoring agencies, uncovered evidence of irregularities.

In a letter sent out on April 1st, 2025, and addressed to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) General Secretary Mr. Ndege Ndege, CAF’s Integrity Officer Marjan Marjan outlined the results of a forensic investigation into the match. The report flagged suspicious behavior, particularly from Kenyan goalkeeper Patrick Matasi, as possible violations of FIFA’s anti-match-fixing regulations.

As a result, the CAF Disciplinary Committee ruled that the match must be replayed at a neutral venue, to be selected by CAF, within the next 60 days.

In addition to the replay, several players from both the Kenyan and Cameroonian squads, including Patrick Matasi, are now under formal investigation. If found guilty of manipulating the match, they could face severe disciplinary action, including lifetime bans from all football activities.

The FKF has been instructed to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigations and to suspend any individuals under suspicion from all federation sanctioned competitions until further notice.

CAF has committed to covering all expenses associated with the replay to ensure neither federation bears the financial burden.

The date and venue for the rematch are yet to be confirmed. FIFA and CAF reiterated their commitment to fair play and transparency, calling on all parties involved to support efforts to protect the integrity of the sport.
