The President of the UAE Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has granted a pardon to the Zamalek trio who were detained in Abu Dhabi following assault charges.
Earlier on Tuesday, an Abu Dhabi court sentenced Zamalek football director Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed, midfielder Nabil Emad ‘Dunga’, and winger Mostafa Shalaby to one month in jail, along with a fine of AED 200,000 each for their involvement in an altercation with a stadium organizer.
The court found them guilty of using force, violence, and threats against a public official.
The incident occurred during Zamalek’s victory over Pyramids in the Egyptian Super Cup semi-finals. What began as a verbal argument between the Zamalek officials and a member of the organizing staff escalated into a physical confrontation. The three were detained following the incident.
Just hours after the Abu Dhabi court announced the sentence, Emirates News Agency-WAM, reported the president’s decision to pardon the three detainees.
