Egypt beat Iraq in final test before Olympics

Egypt U23 national team beat Iraq by a score of 2-1 in their final friendly match ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics kick-off on July 24th.

The Pharaohs had played a 1-1 draw with Ukraine earlier this week and now completed their preparation with a 2-1 victory over Iraq.

Pyramids FC forward Ibrahim Adel scored Egypt’s both goals in the 2nd and 65th minutes in a game that wasn’t televised.

Adel, the rising star will need to have a similar impact in the Olympics if Egypt is to make a deep run as he will be supported by Ahmed Sayed Zizo and ex-Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

Meanwhile, the team continues to be struggling to keep clean a sheet once again as Roger Micale will hope his players gain experience from these friendlies ahead of the Olympic games.

Egypt needed to end their Olympic preparations with a win to boost confidence within the group.

Just a week from now, Egypt will open its Olympic campaign against the Dominican Republic on July 24, before facing Uzbekistan three days later. They end the group-stages with a tough clash with Spain on July 30.
