
Egypt completed a commanding tournament by defeating Tunisia 37–24 in the final of the 2026 African Men’s Handball Championship.
The win delivered Egypt’s 10th continental title, pulling them level with Tunisia as the competition’s most decorated nations.
Straight from the jump, the Pharaohs effectively controlled the pace of the game and established an early lead that Tunisia was unable to seriously challenge. By halftime, Egypt held an advantage of 17–10, effectively rendering the match a one-sided contest.
Following the break, Egypt extended their lead. Their defensive performance remained highly disciplined, and their transition play was consistently sharp. Consequently, the Tunisian offensive repeatedly faced resistance. The scoring margin remained throughout the second half, ending in a decisive victory for the Egyptians with a 13-goal advantage.
The title was also the fourth consecutive African championship for Egypt.
Egypt reached the final of the African Handball Championship by beating Cape Verde 32–26 in the semi-final. Tunisia booked their place with a 33–24 win over Algeria in the other last-four match.
Cape Verde took the bronze medal after defeating Algeria 29–23 in the third-place playoff.
The title run also came with a bigger prize attached. Egypt, Tunisia, Angola, Cape Verde and Algeria have all qualified for the 2027 Men’s Handball World Championship in Germany.
