Egypt booked a place in the final of the African Men’s Handball Championship in Rwanda after a 32–26 semi-final win over Cape Verde.

The Pharaohs set the tone early, racing into a 10–5 lead inside the first 15 minutes and taking a 16–11 advantage into halftime. Under head coach Xavier Pascual, Egypt kept their structure after the break, managed the tempo, and gradually stretched the margin to close out a six-goal victory.

The win keeps Egypt on course for a record-extending 10th continental title, a milestone that would also draw them level with Tunisia’s 10 trophies. They will meet the winner of the other semi-final between Tunisia and Algeria, with the championship match scheduled for Saturday.

Egypt opened the tournament by beating Gabon 36–25, then secured a 41–28 victory over Angola, and comfortably won against Uganda 54-13. They later defeated Algeria 42–28, before cruising past Nigeria 48–22.

Beyond the trophy, the African Championship serves as a qualifier for the 2027 IHF Men’s World Championship, with the top five finishers earning spots. Egypt have already done the hard part, now they are one win away from another prestigious handball title.
