Egypt wrapped up their FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a 1–0 victory over Guinea-Bissau in Cairo, capping off an unbeaten campaign.
The Pharaohs took control from the first minute of the match, despite several national-team stars being absent, including Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush.
Pyramids FC fullback, Mohamed Hamdy, netted the winner in the 10th minute with a header following a pinpoint cross from Ahmed Nabil “Koka”.
Egypt had already punched their ticket after a 3–0 victory over Djibouti, rolling to first place in Group A. They amassed an impressive 20 goals in their 10 matches and conceded just twice, sealing an unbeaten finish at 26 points.
Egypt now await the FIFA World Cup draw, to be held in early December, ahead of next summer’s tournament across the USA, Canada and Mexico.
This will be the Pharaohs’ fourth World Cup appearance after 1934, 1990 and 2018, with Hossam Hassan’s side aiming to achieve a first-ever win on the global stage.
