The Egyptian Football Association condemned racist abuse during the Spain friendly, calling for stronger action to stop such incidents.

The Egyptian Football Association condemned what it called a “reprehensible racist incident” during the match between Egypt and Spain in Barcelona, after fans directed Islamophobic and xenophobic chants from the stands at RCDE Stadium. The federation also denounced the lack of respect shown during the Egyptian national anthem.

In a statement on Wednesday, the EFA said the behavior was “entirely unacceptable” and called for stronger action to prevent similar incidents in football stadiums. The federation said the actions of a minority of fans would not damage relations with the Spanish Football Federation.

The EFA thanked the Spanish Football Federation, Spain’s sports authorities, and football officials in the country for condemning the abuse. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente also rejected the chants after the match and said they did not represent football’s values.

Catalonia’s regional police opened an investigation after supporters chanted “who doesn’t jump is a Muslim” during the match. Stadium officials displayed anti-discrimination messages on the big screen, but the chanting continued.

The EFA said its president, Hany Abo Rida, would work with FIFA officials and other international bodies to help stop such incidents in football. The federation said it remains committed to preserving strong ties with Spanish football and to welcoming visiting teams in future matches.

The friendly ended 0-0. Egypt produced a disciplined performance against Spain as part of their preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
