Egyptian wrestler Kisho released by French police over lack of evidence

The Egyptian Olympic Committee announced that Mohamed Ibrahim Kisho has been released after being cleared of accusations of sexual harassment.

Egyptian wrestler Mohamed Ibrahim Kisho was arrested in Paris following allegations of sexual assault and public intoxication.

Mohamed Ibrahim El-Sayed, commonly known as Kisho, represented Egypt at the Men’s Greco-Roman 67 kg event but was eliminated early on in the Round of 16 after losing bronze-medalist winner Hasrat Jafarov.

He was due to return to Egypt on Friday but had been granted permission to leave the Egyptian camp early to watch a wrestling match in his weight category, before switching off his phone and going AWOL.

In the early hours of Friday, Kisho was arrested on suspicion of sexually harassing a woman in a bar near the Seine River on Quai d’Austerlitz in Paris, with the incident reportedly taking place at 4:30 AM.

According to the Paris prosecutor’s office, Kisho was heavily intoxicated at the time of the arrest.

A day after his arrest, the Egyptian Olympic Committee revealed that Kisho had been released by the French police due to lack of evidence.

In a statement, the Olympic Committee said: “Olympic wrestler Mohamed Ibrahim Kisho has been released by the French police as the accusation of harassing a French woman was not proven, as alleged against him.

“The investigations have been definitively closed against Kisho due to the lack of any evidence implicating the athlete. The cameras at the location were reviewed, and the French authorities found no inappropriate actions by the Egyptian athlete towards the woman.

“The athlete went from the police station to Charles de Gaulle Airport in preparation for his return to Cairo this evening, Saturday.

“The Committee for Committee of Bodies, Clubs, and Ethics, headed by Sherif El Qamati, intends to shift the focus of the investigation from the false accusation of harassment by the French woman, as she previously claimed, to the charge of leaving the Olympic Village and not returning after the final match in his weight category, which he went to watch but did not return on time to the Olympic Village in Paris.”
