Fetouh referred to criminal court for involuntary manslaughter & drug use

The Public Prosecution has ordered the referral of Zamalek player Ahmed Fetouh to the Criminal Court on charges of involuntary manslaughter and drug use.

Two days ago, the Public Prosecution decided to extend the detention of Ahmed Fetouh for an additional 15 days pending investigation, having also taken a drug sample from the player to be analysed.

The incident took place during the early hours of Sunday on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, leading to the death of the police officer.

Fetouh was on his way back to Cairo, accompanied by his club teammate Mohamed Sobhi, who was released as the car belonged to Fetouh and the goalkeeper was not driving

The Public Prosecution’s statement is as follows:

“The Public Prosecution has ordered the referral of the defendant, Ahmed Mohamed Aboul Fetouh, a football player, to the competent Criminal Court to be tried on charges of possessing hashish with the intent to consume and causing the death of the victim, Sayed Ahmed Sayed, due to his reckless driving while under the influence of the drug, which created a dangerous situation.

The prosecution’s investigations confirmed that the defendant was driving his car at an extremely high speed on one of the coastal roads, exceeding the legal speed limit while under the influence of hashish. As a result, he struck the victim while he was crossing the road, causing his body to be dismembered inside the car and along the roadside, leading to his death.

The forensic medical report confirmed that the sample taken from the defendant contained the aforementioned drug. The prosecution questioned the defendant, and to verify his defense, they questioned the forensic doctor, who confirmed—based on the examination report—that the defendant had indeed consumed hashish. This was also supported by the investigation findings.”
