Aliou Badji

Former Al Ahly striker Aliou Badji has become a free agent after Girondins de Bordeaux’s dispute with the French Football Federation (FFF).

Amidst crisis-level financial troubles, Bordeaux have informed the FFF they won’t be renewing their professional license.

This has resulted in all player contracts being terminated and their training centre being closed. One of the players affected is Senegalese striker Aliou Badji.

Badji has been linked with a return to Al Ahly. According to media reports, the forward never wanted to leave the Cairo giants and his departure was based on the request of former head coach Pitso Mosimane.

As a free agent, a potential transfer could be enticing for Al Ahly as the 26-year-old could serve as a backup for Wessam Abou Ali after Anthony Modeste’s deal expired with Mahmoud Kahraba being rumoured to leave the club this summer.

In total, he featured 25 times for Al Ahly, scoring four goals and assisting eight times in all competitions while winning the Egyptian Premier League, Egyptian Cup and the CAF Champions League.
