Gary Neville has praised Omar Marmoush while expressing anger at the lackluster goalless draw between Manchester United and Manchester City.
Sunday’s Manchester Derby failed to live up to expectations, with neither side able to produce a breakthrough in what turned out to be a forgettable draw at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s best chance fell to Alejandro Garnacho, who hesitated at a crucial moment, while City came close to scoring twice through Omar Marmoush, forcing Andre Onana into two solid saves.
Despite the underwhelming contest, Neville singled out Marmoush for praise, commending the Egyptian forward’s movement and work ethic.
“I like Marmoush,” Neville said post-match. “He makes runs without the ball, which is unusual in football. I think we see a lot of players waiting for the ball, and then they might do something with it.”
“You see very few players making real, direct runs in behind and between defenders. I think he’s good. He actually did quite well today, even though he didn’t get great service. He looks like someone who could become part of a very good front two or front three, depending on what Pep Guardiola does next season.”
Neville was far less complimentary about the match itself, expressing frustration over the lack of intensity from both teams.
“I’m disappointed,” he said. “It’s a Manchester derby, it should have more blood, thunder, and courage. Instead, it felt robotic, overly micromanaged, like both teams were content with a draw.”
The result leaves both clubs in mediocre positions in the Premier League table. United remain stuck in the bottom half, while City sit fifth as they continue to chase Champions League qualification.
