
Egypt fell just short in the inaugural IHF Men’s U17 World Championship final, losing 44–43 in extra time to Germany after a tense contest.
The Pharaohs delivered a commendable performance, nearly capturing the historic first edition of the tournament. After trailing 18–17 at halftime, Egypt stormed ahead in the second half, going up 25-21.
Germany clawed their way back and forced extra time with a last-second equaliser, tying the game at 37–37 at the end of regular time.
Despite another clutch strike from Youssef Amr at the end of the first extra period, Germany maintained a narrow lead and ultimately sealed the title with a 44–43 win at the end of the second half of extra time.
Egypt’s path to the final had been otherwise brilliant, topping their group with standout wins over Brazil and the USA, before defeating Spain 31–28 in the semi-finals with another fantastic display.
