Hossam Hassan has downplayed transfer rumors regarding Omar Marmoush, emphasizing that the Manchester City forward is focused on AFCON.
Speaking after Egypt’s 1–0 victory over South Africa, Hossam Hassan said Marmoush “would be an asset for any team in the Premier League.” He stressed, however, that decisions on a potential transfer are not being driven from the national team camp.
“I hope Marmoush stays in the Premier League,” Hassan added. “He has an agent, and he is the one who will discuss matters related to his future.”
The Egypt coach also delivered a clear message aimed at closing the door on any suggestion that the transfer chatter is distracting the player during AFCON.
“What I can confirm is that nothing is distracting Omar Marmoush from Egypt at the AFCON,” Hassan said, pointing to the forward’s impact in the tournament opener against Zimbabwe.
Recent reports have indicated that interest has emerged from London, as Spurs continue to scan the market for attacking reinforcements ahead of the January window.
Marmoush, 26, joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025 in a deal worth €75 million. However, his involvement this season has been limited, playing a total of 206 league minutes.
Because Manchester City are unlikely to sanction a straightforward sale mid-season, sources have floated a loan with an option to buy as the type of structure Tottenham would need to put forward to make progress.
Hassan’s comments came moments after Egypt sealed qualification for the knockout stage with a tense victory over South Africa in Group B at AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
Marmoush “will be a gain for any Premier League team,” the coach reiterated, “but what matters for us is that he is fully committed to Egypt during AFCON.”
