Hossam Hassan has reportedly agreed the terms of a contract to remain Egypt head coach until 2030, with his monthly salary set to triple.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and Hassan have reached an agreement on the financial terms, according to sources. The remaining contractual procedures are expected to be completed shortly.

Hassan would receive EGP3 million per month after tax. His previous salary stood at EGP1 million, making the proposed rise EGP2 million, or 200%.

The agreement also reportedly includes increases of up to 100% for his technical and administrative staff. His brother and Egypt team director Ibrahim Hassan would earn EGP1.5 million per month. General coach Tarek Soliman would receive EGP350,000, while assistant coach Mohamed Abdelwahid would earn EGP250,000.

Goalkeeping coach Saafan El-Sagheer, who made the rounds for his sideline antics, would see his salary rise to EGP200,000. Administrative director Walid Badr would receive EGP150,000.

Hassan had reportedly asked for EGP5 million per month during earlier negotiations. The demand delayed an agreement because the EFA committee handling the talks considered the requested package too high.

The reported increase contrasts with Hassan’s earlier insistence that the national-team job was not about money. At his unveiling in February 2024, he said he and Ibrahim could not act as “the other side against Egypt” during contract negotiations.

The sentiment was repeated during this summer’s World Cup. At the time, he said his contract expired in February, but that he has been leading the team as “national duty” rather than in a professional capacity.

The proposed contract would also include bonuses and targets linked to results. Hassan would be expected to take Egypt to the 2027 AFCON and reach the semifinals. He would then need to lead the Pharaohs to the 2030 World Cup.

The EFA had already announced its decision to retain Hassan following Egypt’s historic run at the World Cup. The latest negotiations concerned the financial package and detailed performance clauses.

Hassan took charge in February 2024 after Rui Vitória’s departure. He led Egypt to fourth place at AFCON 2025 before guiding them beyond the World Cup group stage for the first time.

At the time, Hossam Hassan wholeheartedly defended the AFCON performance, saying Egypt had reached the maximum expected from the tournament.
