Salah

Jamie Carragher believes Mohamed Salah has a strong chance of becoming only the second African player in history to win the Ballon d’Or.

The former Liverpool defender highlighted Salah’s performances this season, suggesting that the Egyptian star is well-positioned to claim the 2025 award given his remarkable form so far.

While Mo’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain amid ongoing speculation about his contract situation, Carragher remains confident that his current displays are enough to put Salah in contention for football’s most impressive individual honor.

“Salah’s goal and assist tally is consistently amazing and there is no bigger admirer of his talent than me, regardless of what his fan club on social media might say,” Carragher wrote in his latest Telegraph column.

He continued, “Salah has stated in the past that he wants to become the second African to win the Ballon d’Or after George Weah did so in 1995. I think he has a great chance.”

Carragher also shared his predictions for the Premier League title race, tipping Liverpool to emerge as champions while acknowledging Arsenal as their closest rivals, despite the Gunners’ recent injury struggles.

“It is between Liverpool and Arsenal,” Carragher added. “Enzo Maresca has done an excellent job at Chelsea this season. I was not sure when the club opted not to keep Mauricio Pochettino last summer, but they appointed a coach with a specific profile and Maresca has brought the squad together. Having said that, I think that Chelsea are not quite ready to become champions.”

As Liverpool and Salah continue to dominate both domestically and in Europe, the star forward’s form will undoubtedly play a significant role in determining whether Carragher’s prediction see the light of day.
