Kaizer Chiefs eye shock move for Egyptian Premier League top scorer

South African giants Kaizer Chiefs are eyeing a move for Egyptian Premier League top scorer and Pyramids FC striker Fiston Mayele.

Mayele has taken the Egyptian Premier League by storm since his $800,000 move from Young Africans to Pyramids FC last summer.

The 30-year-old scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 36 games for Pyramids, helping them sit top of the league table ahead of Al Ahly, who still have games in hand.

His impressive performances attracted interest from multiple suitors across the Gulf area before South African giants Kaizer Chiefs emerged as surprise frontrunners.

The interest comes due to Kaizer Chiefs’ newly appointed boss Nasreddine Nabi, who had coached Fiston Mayele during their time together at Young Africans when the club reached the CAF Confederation Cup final and the player earned the top scorer award.

The Tunisian coach urged Kaizer Chiefs’s management to bring in Mayele; however, the interest from the gulf clubs would see Pyramids put a high price tag on the player, which could hinder the South African side’s chances of sealing the deal.

The Chiefs will be hoping for a better time under Nabi next season after finishing 10th in the league last season, ruling them out of a place in the African competitions next season.
