Kaizer Chiefs in talks with Al Ahly's Percy Tau

Al Ahly could have finally found a resolution to the Percy Tau dilemma after Kaizer Chiefs opened talks with the player over a South African return.

The Reds’ head coach Marcel Koller has made it clear that he doesn’t need Percy Tau anymore in his squad after a reported fall-out between both parties.

Tau has one year left on his current contract with Al Ahly and refuses to leave by mutual consent this summer without taking the rest of his remaining salary.

It’s understood that Al Ahly will keep Tau for one more season if they fail to find a sale for him, but this might all change after interest from Kaizer Chiefs.

The AmaKhosi have opened talks with Percy Tau over a return to South Africa this summer as per request from their new head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Both parties are now still in negotiations over personal terms as the player wants a salary closer to his current one in Cairo and if they manage to reach an agreement, the Chiefs will start official talks with Al Ahly.

Kaizer Chiefs are long-term admirers of Percy Tau and had also weighed up a move for the 30-year-old in the previous transfer windows.

Tau left South Africa in July 2018 when he moved to Brighton from Sundowns and has since had several spells in Belgium, before joining Al Ahly in August 2021.

During his time in Cairo, Percy Tau has made 109 appearances for Al Ahly in which he scored 27 goals and assisted 13 as he constantly struggled with injuries.

Last season, he made 33 appearances, scoring nine goals, and helping the club win the CAF Champions League, the Egyptian Premier title, the Egypt Super Cup, and the Club World Cup bronze medal.
