Karim El-Berkaoui move to Zamalek collapses

Karim El-Berkaoui’s move to Zamalek has collapsed after the Moroccan informed the club about his intention to extend Al-Raed stay.

The player reached a deal with Zamalek and was supposed to arrive in Cairo on Wednesday to sign the contract, before informing the Whites he couldn’t travel due to the sickness of his father.

On Thursday, El-Berkaoui told Zamalek he won’t be signing for the club as looks set to sign a new deal with Al-Raed, who he represented for the past four seasons.

Zamalek were in dire desire to sign a new striker after the departure of Ibrahima Ndiaye and Travis Mutyaba and inconsistency of Seifeddine Jaziri.

Zamalek had a disastrous last season, finishing third in the Egyptian Premier League, losing the 2022 Egypt Cup final to Al Ahly, while also getting knocked out of the 2022/23 Egypt Cup round of 16 by El-Gaish.

On a positive note, the club won the CAF Confederations Cup and will hope to retain their African title while mounting a serious challenge for the domestic trophies.
