Kendouci: I will return to Al Ahly, no comparison between Salah & Mahrez

Algerian playmaker Ahmed Kendouci has expressed his desire to return to his parent club, Al Ahly, after being loaned out again to Ceramica Cleopatra.

Despite his impressive performances at Cleopatra last season, Al Ahly have decided to extend the loan spell of Kendouci for yet another season.

The 25-year-old scored 11 goals and assisted nine in 33 games for Cleopatra, helping them claim the Egyptian League Cup, which was Kendouci’s sixth trophy in Egypt, having won five with Al Ahly on his debut campaign.

In an interview with OnTime Sports, Kendouci said: “I’m happy with how Al Ahly fans have embraced me, even though I haven’t played much for the club. Sami Komsan [Al Ahly’s assistant coach] was the one who maintained contact with me about being loaned out again.

“I told Al Ahly that if I had to go on loan, it would be to Ceramica Cleopatra because I felt comfortable there.

“Sami Komsan has been a great support, and while both Zamalek and Pyramids reached out to my agent, I also received a substantial offer from an English club, though I won’t reveal the name.

“I wasn’t upset when Al Ahly was negotiating with Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane. My main concern is getting playing time. Some believe you should stay at Al Ahly and collect trophies even if you’re not playing, but I feel disappointed when I’m not on the pitch.

“I want to win trophies, but not while sitting on the bench. My goal is to return to Al Ahly by the end of this season. As for a potential move to Zamalek, I’m a professional, but I wouldn’t want to lose the love of Al Ahly fans.”

Speaking on his international skipper Riyad Mahrez, Kendouci said: “Mahrez is a leader and I do not like comparing him with Salah because I hate comparisons. If I played in the Premier League, I would assist and score goals, the league surely helps you.”
