Swiss head coach Marcel Koller has equaled a 20-year-old record achieved by legendary Al Ahly manager Manuel Jose following the Ceramica Cleopatra victory.
Al Ahly beat Cleopatra FC 4-1 to stay top of the Egyptian Premier League table as they now need only nine points from six games to claim the title for a record 44th time.

The victory extended Al Ahly’s winning run to 17 games, equalling the league record for most consecutive wins in a single season, which was also set by the Reds during the 2004/05 season under legendary coach Portuguese Manuel Jose.
This season, Al Ahly haven’t dropped any points since losing to their arch-rivals Zamalek on April 15, winning every single game since then, including back-to-back victories over title rivals Pyramids FC.
Al Ahly will now have a chance to break the record once again if they manage to beat Bank Al Ahly on Thursday, August 1.
The record for consecutive wins in the Egyptian Premier League is 21, which was also achieved by Al Ahly spanning the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons when Al Ahly won 17 consecutive games in the 2004-2005 season, then four in the 2005-2006 season.
Koller is also targeting the maximum number of points achieved in a single season. This number is also in Al Ahly’s name when they reached 89 points in the 2019-2020 season. Al Ahly can reach 90 points if they win all their remaining six games.
The Swiss coach already broke Manuel Jose’s record this season when he reached 23 games unbeaten in the CAF Champions League. The Portuguese coach’s record was 20.
