Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller praised his team’s performance against Zamalek, while noting that his players are not yet at full fitness.
Koller managed to claim his tenth trophy with Al Ahly as they beat arch-rivals Zamalek 7-6 on penalties to win their 15th Egyptian Super Cup title in Abu Dhabi.
In his post-match press conference, Koller stated: “We played a great game.
“We started fast, creating three clear chances, but unfortunately, we couldn’t convert them. The heat affected the players’ performance and added to their fatigue.
“We made substitutions due to fatigue. We’re not yet at 100% fitness, especially with many players returning from international duty. This has impacted our team cohesion.
“There’s a difference in the training rhythm between national teams and club football. The pace of international play is different. Luck favored us in the penalty shootout, and we’re happy to have won the trophy.”
He concluded by mentioning that Achraf Dari is with the team, undergoing treatment, and added that there are a few other injuries in the squad.
