Lebanese football suspended indefinitely amid security concerns

The Lebanese Football Association has announced an indefinite suspension of the Lebanese League due to the deteriorating security situation in the country.

The Lebanese Football Association (LFA) has announced the indefinite suspension of all domestic football competitions due to the worsening security situation in the country.

This comes after Israeli airstrikes targeted Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, sparking fears of an escalating conflict. The suspension affects the Lebanese Premier League, which had just started its 2024-2025 season.

In an official statement, the LFA confirmed: “Due to the current security situation, the football league will be postponed to a date that will be decided later.”

The league had kicked off only four days before the decision, with Nejmeh SC defeating Al Ansar FC 3-1 in the Lebanese Super Cup.

Unfortunately, the second round of fixtures, scheduled between September 27-29, has been put on hold indefinitely.

The LFA also verified the results of all first-round matches across all divisions and age groups, while the disciplinary committee announced the suspension of four players in the first and second divisions based on previous violations.

This postponement mirrors similar actions in neighboring Palestine, where domestic football, and all sports for that matter, have been halted due to ongoing conflicts.

Both countries are facing severe challenges in continuing their sporting events amidst rising tensions

With the league’s future now uncertain, football in Lebanon stands at a crossroads as officials assess the unfolding crisis, making the resumption of matches entirely dependent on the evolving security situation.
