Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus believes that Omar Marmoush should be in the conversation for the world’s best player.
With 14 goals in 16 appearances, along with 10 assists, Marmoush has found the net in 11 separate matches so far this campaign, topping the Bundesliga goal-scoring charts.
The Egyptian’s contributions have propelled Eintracht Frankfurt to third place in the Bundesliga with 20 points from 10 matches. They also sit fourth in their Europa League group with 10 points from four games.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Matthaus praised the Egyptian forward’s impact at Eintracht Frankfurt, saying, “Frankfurt has been the surprise of the league, and the main reason for that is Omar Marmoush.”
“If we were to choose the world’s best player every three months, Marmoush should be in contention for the award.
“He’s currently playing at an elite level, not only in the Bundesliga but also on the international stage.”
The World Cup and Ballon d’Or winner added: “Marmoush, like Harry Kane at Bayern Munich, benefits greatly from his teammates.
“The team supports him, sets him up, and he scores plenty of goals. Frankfurt is playing fantastic football, and they have a real chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season.”
Considering Marmoush’s impressive start to the season, it’s no shock that he’s attracting interest from some of Europe’s elite clubs.
Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly monitoring the 25-year-old as a potential successor to Robert Lewandowski, becoming the latest elite club to be linked with the Egyptian alongside Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich.
