The Egyptian Pro League Association has announced a series of decisions regarding next season’s Premier League structure.
Earlier today, the Egyptian Premier League Association held a meeting that was attended by representatives from 15 Premier League clubs, with Zamalek, Pyramids FC, and Haras El-Hodoud notably absent.
Among the most significant outcomes is the cancellation of relegation for next season, a move designed to reshape the competition’s format and bridge the transition into an expanded league.
Instead of relegating clubs, four teams will be promoted from the second division, increasing the total number of clubs in the 2025–26 season.
The league will then return to its standard relegation rules the following year, with four teams set to be relegated at the end of the expanded season.
The league association also confirmed a vote of confidence in its current leadership, renewing trust in chairman Ahmed Diab and the existing board.
Additional key decisions include:
- The 2025–26 Egyptian Premier League season will kick off on August 15, 2025, and run until May 2026.
- Clubs will have until June 18 to submit comments and suggestions on proposed amendments to the league regulations.
- The foreign player quota remains unchanged.
- The league association called on Egypt’s Parliament, Prime Minister, and Ministry of Youth and Sports to expedite the passage of the new Sports Law, particularly the clauses related to sports investment, to help clubs transition their football departments into joint-stock companies.
These changes come amid a broader push to modernize Egyptian football and make the league more competitive.
The absence of relegation is expected to provide a chance for clubs looking to restructure and invest.
