Messi takes Inter Miami to 2025 Club World Cup

FIFA has officially announced that Inter Miami qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup under its new format.

Inter Miami, which boasts a star-studded lineup including Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, secured one of the final spots in the expanded 32-team tournament.

This marks Inter Miami as the 31st team to qualify for the tournament, with only one spot remaining, to be determined by the winner of the 2024 Copa Libertadores. The tournament will take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025.

Egypt’s Al Ahly will also compete in the tournament, representing Africa after winning the CAF Champions League in 2021, 2023, and 2024.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed Inter Miami’s qualification during the team’s receipt of the Supporters’ Shield, awarded to the MLS team with the most points during the regular season across both the Eastern and Western Conferences.

Winning the Supporters’ Shield grants Inter Miami qualification for the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the North American equivalent of the CAF Champions League. The team also set a record for the highest points total in MLS history during the group stage, finishing with 74 points.

The 2025 Club World Cup’s opening match will be held in Miami on June 15, 2025.

So far, 31 teams have qualified for the 2025 Club World Cup. The final spot, representing South America, will go to the 2024 Copa Libertadores winner.

FIFA has designated 11 cities and 12 stadiums to host the tournament as part of the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, New York City. The Club World Club is set to kick off on the 15th of June, 2025, and will last almost a month, with the final being played on the 13th
