Mido urges Zamalek to sign 'outstanding' Percy Tau from Al Ahly

Zamalek legend Ahmed Hossam “Mido” has expressed confidence that South African winger Percy Tau would thrive at Zamalek if he were to join the club.

Percy Tau has been struggling for playing time with the Reds recently, having lost his place in Marcel Koller’s starting XI, playing just 11 minutes of league action this season.

South African National Team manager Hugo Broos has made it clear that Tau must leave Al Ahly if he wants to reclaim his spot in the national squad.

Percy Tau’s contract with Al Ahly is set to expire by the end of the current season and it’s expected the Reds won’t try to pursue the player to extend his deal.

Ex-Tottenham and West Ham striker Ahmed Hossam Mido has urged his boyhood to take advantage of Tau’s unsettled future and snatch the player from their arch-rivals on a free transfer.

Speaking on ON Time Sports, Mido said: “I urge Zamalek’s board to sign Percy Tau.

“He’s a top player with vast experience. Since he’s already playing in the Egyptian Premier League, he’s familiar with the atmosphere and won’t need time to adapt.

“I’m confident he’ll succeed at Zamalek. Despite his injury history, when he’s at his best, he’s an outstanding talent.

“I see no problem with transfers between Al Ahly and Zamalek. If Al Ahly is willing to let him go in January, why shouldn’t he join Zamalek?

“I previously recommended Reda Slim to Zamalek’s board before he signed for Al Ahly. The Moroccan winger is a fantastic player, but injuries have slowed his progress.”

On Mohamed Salah’s future, Mido concluded, “I believe Al Hilal would be the best destination for Salah if he decides to join the Saudi Pro League.

“He’s not in a tough spot—he can either stay at Liverpool or embrace a new challenge. He has plenty of options.”

Salah’s current contract with Liverpool expires next July and it has been reported that negotiations are ongoing between both parties as they work toward a potential new deal.
