Egyptian Premier League outfit Modern Future have announced the passing of Ahmed Refaat on Saturday morning.

Ahmed Refaat has had health issues in recent weeks after his on-field collapse against Ittihad of Alexandria back in March.

The 31-year-old was later rushed to the hospital before being discharged days later after regaining consciousness from a coma.

Just weeks after the shocking incident, local reports confirmed that Refaat suffered from another cardiac arrest on Saturday morning and was moved to the nearest emergency shortly.

Despite undergoing chest compressions for nearly two hours, Refaat’s heart showed no signs of response and the doctors eventually declared his death.

“With great sadness, Modern Future announces the death of Ahmed Refaat as a result of his deteriorating health condition,” the club said in a statement.

“The club extends its sincere condolences to the player’s family and the Egyptian football fans.”
