German side VfL Bochum have officially announced the departure of defender Mohamed Tolba.

The 20-year-old was among a number of players released as the club prepares for life in the 2. Bundesliga after finishing bottom of the Bundesliga table with just 25 points.

Born in 2004, Mohamed Tolba holds both German and Egyptian citizenship. He rose through the ranks of VfL Bochum’s youth academy and earned promotion to the first team three seasons ago. The defender has also featured for Germany at both U18 and U19 levels.

However, two cruciate ligament injuries derailed Tolba’s progress and prevented him from making a senior league appearance.

As a result, the club opted not to renew the contract of the German-born defender of Egyptian descent upon its expiration this summer.

In an official statement, VfL Bochum extended their thanks to Mohamed Tolba and the departing players, marking the end of his time at the club.

The player’s next destination is currently unknown, but he is eligible to represent Egypt internationally.
