Mostafa Mohamed continues to train away from Nantes’ first-team squad and has attracted interest from Turkey, according to L’Équipe.
The French newspaper reported that Mostafa Mohamed remains outside the main group while receiving approaches from Turkey.
The striker has trained separately since returning to Nantes in July. He reported for duty almost one month after the club began preseason on June 24.
Nantes coach Michel Der Zakarian subsequently confirmed that the Egyptian would remain “with the reserves until the end of the transfer window.” The coach added that the club could not immediately rely on a player who arrived three or four weeks after his teammates began preparations.
KingFut had previously reported that Nantes planned to demote Mostafa Mohamed and had withheld his salary during his unexplained absence. After returning to the Jonelière training centre, the striker completed an individual session before joining the reserve side’s preparations.
According to L’Équipe, Mostafa Mohamed does not want to continue his career in Ligue 2 following Nantes’ relegation. His salary was also reduced under a clause activated by the club’s drop from the French top flight.
The 28-year-old has not featured as Nantes lost their opening two league matches. Michel Der Zakarian’s side suffered a 1-0 home defeat by Red Star before losing 2-1 at Laval.
Nantes host Rodez for their third league fixture as they search for their first points of the season, and Mostafa Mohamed remains unavailable to a side that has struggled in attack.
He scored four goals in 24 Ligue 1 appearances last season, preceding his omission from the World Cup squad.
Mostafa joined Nantes on loan from Galatasaray in July 2022. The French club later activated a reported €5.7 million purchase option and signed him permanently in June 2023.
A move to Turkey would mark Mohamed’s return to a familiar league. The former Zamalek striker spent around 18 months at Galatasaray before moving to France.
